Louisville ASHRAE - February Chapter Meeting

Louisville ASHRAE – February Chapter Meeting

Please join us on February 15th from 11:30am – 1:00pm for our February Chapter Meeting!

This month is focused on our chapter’s history as well as membership promotion! Bring a non-ASHRAE member with you for free. Each attendee needs to register, so the non-ASHRAE member will register using the "guest" option. As a part of our focus on history, we will be celebrating our Chapter’s past presidents who have led us to where we are today.

Presenter: Tom McDermott

Tom McDermott is the current regional sales manager for Swegon North America. He has been providing equipment solutions for the HVAC industry for over 30 years. Working as a sales engineer, regional manager or director of sales, his systems approach to solutions has benefitted from his experience with waterside, airside and control design. Current work with Swegon focuses on high efficient energy recovery ventilation along with chilled beam design. Tom is a member of the ASHRAE Applied Standard Subcommittee.

Topic: High Efficient Ventilation Systems to improve Indoor Air Quality

Abstract: The Passive Building concept involves strategies for ventilation to save energy while proving occupant comfort. Attend this seminar to learn how a Passive Building Design enables its occupants to benefit from a well-applied ventilation system.

Learning Objectives:
Review the Passive Building concept.
Gain familiarity with Passive Building ventilation principles and design strategies.
Learn how energy is saved by proper ventilation system design.
Understand building occupant comfort research, standards and design considerations.

Founder of ECT Services to Speak at ASHRAE 2023 Winter Conference

We are pleased to announce that Larry J. Fisher, Founder of ECT Services and former Louisville ASHRAE President, will be speaking at the 2023 ASHRAE Winter Conference!

Topic: Best Practices For Installing DDC Systems

This course covers best installation practices of DDC systems. A facility’s direct digital controls (DDCs) form a living, breathing system that an owner will use throughout the life of the building. If standardized and quality installations are promoted, the short- and long-term success of control systems will be greatly improved. Best Practices for Installing DDC Control Systems will provide tools to ensure uniformity for consultants, contractors, and code officials and will specifically benefit consulting engineers, DDC design integration engineers, commissioning authorities, and contractors who install DDC systems.

Building EQ: Powered by ASHRAE

ASHRAE's Building EQ Portal provides a quick energy analysis that benchmarks a building's energy performance. Building EQ assists in the preparation of an ASHRAE Level 1 Energy Audit to identify means to improve a building's energy performance including low-cost, no-cost energy efficiency measures and an Indoor Environmental Quality survey with recorded measurements to provide additional information to assess a building's performance.

Two different evaluations can be used independently to compare a candidate building to other similar buildings in the same climate zone or together for an assessment of a building's design potential compared to actual operation:

In Operation compares actual building energy use based on metered energy information.

As Designed compares potential energy use based on the building's physical characteristics and systems with standardized energy use simulation.
